When should a manhole be rehabilitated instead of replaced?
Rehabilitation is typically the right call when the structure is still geometrically intact but suffering from corrosion, inflow/infiltration, or surface deterioration. MACP inspection results drive the decision — structures with significant hydrogen sulfide attack, root intrusion, or joint leakage are excellent candidates for coatings or structural liners. Full replacement is usually reserved for structures with compromised geometry, failed benches and inverts that cannot be rebuilt, or major structural collapse.
How does manhole rehabilitation reduce inflow and infiltration (I&I)?
Chimney seals, structural liners, and cementitious or epoxy coatings seal cracks, joints, and adjusting rings that allow groundwater and stormwater into the sanitary sewer system. On typical programs we see 50–90% I&I reduction at rehabilitated structures, which reduces treatment plant load, SSO risk, and pumping costs for the utility.
What coatings do you use for corrosion protection?
We apply cementitious, epoxy, and polyurethane coatings selected based on the environment and MACP findings. How long does a typical manhole rehabilitation take?
Most individual structures can be cleaned, prepped, and coated in a single day per manhole, with additional time for cure. Structural liner installations take longer — typically 1–2 days per manhole including surface prep, liner placement, and cure. Program schedules depend on total quantity, access, bypass needs, and traffic control constraints.
Can you rehab manholes on active sanitary systems?
Yes. We plan flow management, bypass pumping, and traffic control in advance so rehabilitation can occur on live systems with minimal service disruption. Confined space entry, atmospheric monitoring, and OSHA-compliant rescue planning are built into every manhole entry.
Do you provide post-rehabilitation documentation?
Yes. Every rehabilitated structure includes before/after photos, MACP condition documentation, coating / liner product data, and dry film thickness or installation records so the utility can load the rehab into their asset management system and defend the investment during audit or future inspections.
